This painting was inspired by one of the major ecological disasters - 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill at the Gulf of Mexico.
Exposure to sunlight initiates a chemical process that can turn crude oil from its natural brown/black color to a bright orange. Photographs of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill captured this transformation, which inspired this work. But this event didn’t just transform the water, it didn’t just transform the beaches, the wetlands, and other ecosystems along the coastline. It also transformed our perception of the dangers associated with offshore drilling, and who can be held accountable when it all goes wrong.
Original oil painting on canvas, 40”x 16”x 1.5”
Signed on the front, signed & titled on the back and comes with the Certificate of Authenticity
Protective varnish applied to the painting
Painted on 1.5" deep gallery wrapped canvas with all sides painted - no framing is needed
Wired and ready to hang
Please note that colors may vary slightly due to the fact that you are viewing art on a backlit screen.
